Moira Marder

CEO, The Ted Wragg MAT
Moira epitomises the trust’s aim of transforming young people’s futures through exceptional education no matter their background. She started her career as a history teacher at Feltham Community College in West London. She first came to the south west in 2007 as deputy headteacher at St James School, later becoming headteacher in 2011. Whilst at St James, the school transformed from one of the lowest performing schools in the country to one of the top performing in Devon. She is at the heart of the trust and has been part of it since before it was formed in 2013. She believes passionately in the benefit of local schools working together to be the best they can be for all our children across the region and she has been an instrumental force in realising the huge educational benefits of working with lead trust education partners; Exeter College and The University of Exeter.
Moira is a member of Uffculme Academy Trust, chairs the Plymouth place based group, is Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, and has received a Doctorate from Exeter University in 2019 for services to education.

Keynote: Taking action

Sharath will share an initial provocation on how leaders can rebuild public trust in their organisations in challenging times, building on Leora’s emphasis on creating public value. He will particularly focus on deepening relationships within our organisations and with our communities, and moving away from transactional approaches. Sharath will also encourage us to together create different definitions of accountability. He will then host a fireside chat with trust leaders, Jim Lauder and Moira Marder, to explore how they have been applying these approaches in their organisations, and the early successes they have seen. Jim and Moira will be able to share the new leadership mindsets and behaviours that have been part and parcel of this journey – and how they have overcome resistance and obstacles. Sharath will then give us all space to discuss this theme and share our thoughts. This will be a fast-paced, interactive session. We encourage you to sit next to someone you don't already know to make new connections and share new ideas.

Keynote: Final reflections

Sharath will help us to reflect together on what we have learned and discovered as a community around the themes of public value, relational capital, and building new definitions of accountability. We’ll have a chance for individual, pair and whole group reflection to help us consolidate the deep insights and perspectives we’ve been exposed to over the course of the two days. We’ll also discuss how we may collectively want to move this agenda forward, and who we need to engage in that process. Sharath will also ask Jim and Moira and other audience members to share their key reflections around this.
