Panel: Attracting the next generation

Let’s meet the next generation of governance leaders. In this panel discussion, our ‘younger’ trustees will discuss the huge benefits of intergenerational work on boards. How can trusts develop a pipeline of talent amongst late millennials and generation Z? What can these generations bring to the table? And, how can we overcome some of the barriers in attracting the next generation of talent to our boards?

Final reflections and close

Final reflections on the conference with the formal close at 16:00.

Solutions focus: How can AI and technology improve governance?

Governance has a ‘fluffload’ problem. Could AI be part of the solution? This interactive workshop will explore cutting edge uses of technology and AI to enhance governance practice, making it more efficient, effective, accountable and ethical.

Prevention not firefighting: Taking a relational approach

The legal world has long relied on the highly relational practices of mediation and alternative dispute resolution to pre-empt litigation. Can we do the same in education to prevent unnecessary friction points? This workshop will focus on relational and potentially preventative policies and practices we can put in place to build trust with our stakeholders.

Next-gen board leadership: Looking beyond skills

A traditional skills audit will no longer suffice to capture the type of leadership style required for next-gen governance. In this panel discussion, we will explore sense-making, how it impacts decision making and how trusts can both recruit for and develop governance leaders who can lead through complexity.

Panel: The impact of AI on trust strategies

AI has the potential to transform education, but it also feels like the wild west. How should trustees be thinking about the role of AI in their trust strategies? In this panel discussion, we will consider the possibilities as well as the required guardrails to ensure effective and ethical use of AI in trusts. We will also be joined by Rory and Matilda, two pupils from Epsom College and Chertsey High School. They’ll be sharing their experiences and thoughts on AI and its benefits to their learning.

How do we build a trust that is appreciated by its people?

Trustees hold primary responsibility for cultivating a shared vision, mission and ethos across their trust. But many trusts struggle to tell its story and embed its values beyond the school leadership teams. A cohesive identity is built by strong buy-in and a sense of belonging across the trust. In this workshop, trustees can draw on Edurio’s research and hear practical tips from Infinity Academies Trust, one of the highest scoring trusts nationally in staff perceptions of trust value.

Isolated and undervalued? Not anymore.

Governance professionals have long felt isolated and undervalued. But this needs to change. Next-gen governance puts governance professionals at its very heart. This open session will facilitate a discussion about how governance professionals can champion next-gen governance within their trusts and overcome key challenges facing the role.
